In 1949, a football club was born in Juba—Amal Al Hura—destined to inspire generations. For decades, it stood among the giants in South Sudan’s football, dominating the Juba Local Football Association’s top tier in the 1990s. But as time passed, the club faded into the shadows, clinging only to memories and hope.

That hope began to breathe again in 2021, when a determined teenager named Dara Omar Yusif joined the team.

A New Chapter Begins

“When I signed, the club was at the bottom of the table,” Dara recalls. “They weren’t stable, but I told them, ‘I’ll make Amal great again.’”

At just 19 years old, Dara has become the heartbeat of Amal Al Hura. A gifted right-footed playmaker, wearing the number 10 shirt, he brings creativity, calmness, and confidence to the pitch.

He hasn’t yet represented the national team, but his talent is undeniable.

“I believe I’ll play for my country one day,” he says. “That’s my dream.”

A Family of Footballers

Football isn’t just a game in Dara’s family—it’s a tradition. His father, Omar Yusif, played during their days in Sudan. His older brother Ibrahim Omar was a striker for Amal Al Hura, and another brother, Messio Omar Yusif, is the team’s current captain and central defender. The youngest, Ngoma Omar Yusif, is developing his skills with Young Legend Academy.

“I joined Amal because of my brother Ibrahim,” Dara says. “He brought me from Jerusalem FC, a talented but unsupported team in Munuki Block C.”

Dreams Fulfilled

Since childhood, Dara dreamed of surpassing his brother’s goal tally. That dream came true in the 2024/2025 season, when he netted 15 goals and contributed 7 assists.

“Being Amal’s top scorer and helping us reach the 2nd Division—it means everything to me,” he says.

Amal Al Hura topped the Juba Zone in the 3rd Division, collecting 58 points from 18 wins, 4 draws, and 2 losses. In the promotion playoffs, Dara delivered again—providing key assists against Al Tahrir and Gurei United, helping Amal finish second on goal difference and securing a long-awaited promotion.

Resurrecting a Sleeping Giant

Founded in 1949, Amal Al Hura was once a dominant name in Juba football. Their decline was painful to witness, but the revival has begun. Young players like Dara are not just chasing goals—they’re chasing legacy.

“We’re not just playing for points—we’re playing for history,” Dara reflects.

Looking Ahead

“I want to play in the Premier League one day,” he says. “But right now, my focus is on lifting Amal higher.”

With passion in his voice, he adds, “To our fans—thank you. You are the reason we fight. And to my coach Balumi—thank you for believing in me.”

From the dusty pitches of Munuki to the bright lights of promotion playoffs, Dara’s story is one of belief, family, and revival. As Amal Al Hura rises once again, South Sudanese football watches with hope—because from the ashes of history, new heroes are born.
