Felix Obama is showing that opportunity can be just as important as playing time. The young right-back produced an impressive display for South Sudan U23 in their second-leg CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Djibouti at Juba National Stadium.

Under head coach Simon James, Obama brought energy, determination and defensive discipline to the right side, competing strongly for possession while also providing an attacking outlet.

His performances across both legs were particularly encouraging considering his limited minutes at club level.

Obama had not featured for Jamus SC in their opening four league matches and also did not get playing time during the club's historic CECAFA campaign. But on the international stage, the young defender looked ready.

Obama's defensive qualities stood out. His well-timed sliding tackles and challenges helped him deal with Djibouti's attacks, while his recovery runs showed a willingness to work for the team. Going forward, he offered another dimension.

The right-back repeatedly looked to advance and delivered dangerous crosses from the flank, demonstrating that his game is not limited to defensive duties. For a player still developing, the balance between defensive aggression and attacking ambition is an encouraging sign.

Obama is also a product of Future Stars Football Academy, making his emergence another example of the pathway from academy football to the national team. His performances against Djibouti may only represent the beginning, but they provide a promising glimpse of what the young full-back can offer South Sudan in the years ahead.

The minutes may have been limited at club level. The opportunity came with the national team — and Obama made them count.
