SAL ISLAND, CAPE VERDE — South Sudan Volleyball Federation President Mary Ayen Majok is in Cape Verde for the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Congress 2026, which gets underway today, October 2, on Sal Island.

The four-day continental gathering runs from October 2 to 5, with the core congress sessions scheduled for October 3 and 4.

Majok is representing South Sudan at the event, which brings together volleyball leaders and officials from across the continent.

However, the federation's Secretary, Samuel Pawon, was unable to make the trip after efforts to secure funding fell short.

“There is no fund. We tried, but we failed to get it,” Pawon told Sports Hunter South Sudan.

Pawon's absence leaves Ayen as the federation's representative at the congress, where South Sudan joins other African volleyball nations for discussions and activities surrounding the development and administration of the sport on the continent.

The CAVB Congress is taking place on Sal Island, Cabo Verde, from October 2 to 5, with the main sessions set for October 3 and 4.
