JUBA - The Nile Chess Academy – South Sudan has officially launched its training activities at Scenius Hub, introducing a new platform aimed at developing chess talent and expanding opportunities for players across the country.
The launch marks an important milestone for the growth of chess in South Sudan, with the academy establishing a dedicated training environment where both aspiring and experienced players can improve their skills through structured coaching, regular sessions, and competitive games.
As part of the opening activities, the academy hosted a Sunday Friendly Tournament, bringing together 12 players in a display of competition, learning, and sportsmanship.
Deng Cyer emerged as the unbeaten champion of the tournament after an impressive performance, showcasing his skill, focus, and determination across the competition. The organisers also praised all participants for making the event a success and contributing to the growing chess community in Juba.
The Nile Chess Academy has confirmed that it will continue hosting weekly Sunday chess activities as part of its commitment to nurturing young talent and creating a stronger competitive structure for players.
The academy's next major event will be a rated tournament expected to attract more than 60 players, before the highly anticipated Grand Open Chess Tournament on 16 August 2026.
The Grand Open will feature FIDE-rated games, exciting prizes, and an expected participation of 100 players, offering a major opportunity for chess enthusiasts in South Sudan to compete at a higher level.
With the launch of its training programme and upcoming competitions, the Nile Chess Academy is positioning itself as a key contributor to the development and promotion of chess in South Sudan.
