Juba - South Sudan’s national blind football team has appealed for financial support to secure its participation in the upcoming IBSA Blind Football African Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
The tournament, initially scheduled for 1–10 November 2026, has been postponed to 10–16 December, with the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) giving qualified nations additional time to complete preparations.
South Sudan’s Bright Stars are seeking support to cover international air tickets and training camp expenses as they prepare for the continental competition.
The team made history in 2025 by winning the African Championship Division Two in Uganda, earning promotion to Division One.
Their achievements also earned them the prestigious 2026 Eli Wolff Football Without Limits Award at the World Football Summit in Spain.
The upcoming championship presents another important opportunity for South Sudan to compete at continental level, with qualification pathways to the 2027 Blind Football World Cup in Brazil and the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles at stake.
According to the team, sponsorship has already been secured for accommodation, meals, football equipment, team kits and medical supplies. However, funding for international travel and training preparations remains a major challenge.
One return air ticket from Juba to Egypt is estimated at US$900. The team is therefore calling on individuals, organisations and potential sponsors to support one or more players or contribute towards its preparation costs.
The team says every contribution could help the Bright Stars continue their journey and represent South Sudan on the African stage.
