JUBA, South Sudan — Gurei City and Al Hilal Juba will look to put their difficult starts to the 2026/27 Konyokonyo League campaign behind them when they meet in the third round of the Juba Football Association South Sudan Cup on Thursday.
The two sides were drawn against each other during Wednesday’s draw, setting up a meeting between the defending cup champions and former South Sudan Cup winners at Jamus Playground in Juba.
Gurei City enter the encounter after suffering three consecutive defeats in the JFA First Division League, popularly known as the Konyokonyo League.
The defending champions will be hoping to use the cup competition as an opportunity to regain confidence and get their season back on track.
Al Hilal Juba, meanwhile, are also searching for their first victory of the 2026/27 league campaign.
The former cup champions drew with Zal Zal before suffering consecutive heavy defeats, losing 4-0 to Rainbow and 6-1 to Tahrir FC.
Thursday’s clash therefore offers both teams an opportunity to respond to their disappointing league form, although only one will progress from the cup tie.
With both sides under pressure to deliver a positive result, the encounter at Jamus Playground promises to be an important test of their ability to recover from recent setbacks.
Sports Hunter South Sudan will follow the encounter as the two former and current cup champions battle for a place in the next round.
