JUBA – Yei Joint Stars FC President Eng. Lemi William has called for increased support for football clubs in South Sudan after responding to a Sports Hunter South Sudan opinion piece highlighting challenges surrounding women’s football.

Lemi William described the discussion as “long overdue” and said the reality of football development in South Sudan is that much of the responsibility remains with club administrators who continue to operate under difficult economic conditions.

"This has been long overdue, my brother," Lemi William said.

"Truly, football support in South Sudan is solely left to those who manage these clubs, which is a bitter truth, and considering the hard economic situation our country is going through, it has even made it worse."

The Yei Joint Stars president expressed hope that the conversation would encourage supporters, sponsors, and stakeholders to provide greater assistance beyond moral encouragement.

"I pray that this article opens the hearts and eyes of sports lovers in the whole country to begin giving more than moral support," he added.

Eng. Lemi emphasised that Yei Joint Stars remain committed to representing South Sudan despite the challenges facing the club.

"As Yei Joint Stars FC management, we are doing all that we can to make our beloved Republic of South Sudan proud amidst the obstacles thrown at us," he said.

The response comes as Yei Joint Stars continue preparations for the CECAFA Women’s Club Championship, where they will represent South Sudan on the regional stage.

The club president’s comments have renewed discussions about the need for stronger investment, improved player welfare, and sustainable support systems for women’s football in South Sudan.
