Kigali - Vipers SC moved to the top of Group A at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup after a dramatic 1-0 victory over Gor Mahia FC on Sunday at Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda.
The breakthrough came in the closing stages when 22-year-old Congolese international Gusto Mulongo, introduced from the bench, made an immediate impact by converting a superb cross from Ashraf Mandela to seal all three points for the Ugandan champions.
Mulongo's late strike proved decisive in a closely contested encounter, with the substitute changing the course of the match and handing Vipers their second consecutive victory of the tournament.
The result sees Vipers SC climb to the summit of Group A with six points from two matches, strengthening their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
Gor Mahia remain temporarily second on three points, pending the outcome of the remaining group fixtures.
