Defending champions Tanzania began their 2026 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2–0 victory over Kenya in the CECAFA Zone qualifiers in Rwanda.
Dismas Athanasi broke the deadlock in the 28th minute before Godfrey Somi doubled Tanzania’s advantage in the 57th minute to seal all three points.
Tanzania are drawn in Group C alongside Somalia as they seek to defend their regional title and progress in the qualifying competition.
The champions will next face Somalia on 12 October 2026 at Kigali Pele Stadium, with another opportunity to strengthen their position in the group.
