JUBA - Super Stars FC Bor showed resilience to come from behind and secure a point against El-Merriekh SC Bentiu in a tightly contested encounter at the Buluk Technical Training Center.

The first half ended goalless, with neither side able to find a breakthrough despite creating opportunities.

El-Merriekh eventually opened the scoring in the 68th minute when Tethloach Thor capitalised on a lapse in the Super Stars defence to put the defending champions ahead.

The lead lasted just four minutes.

Juach Ramos produced a powerful finish in the 72nd minute to restore parity and give Super Stars a valuable point after their 2-0 defeat to Jamus SC in the opening round.

The biggest moment of the match came deep into stoppage time.

In the 90+4th minute, El-Merriekh forward Masha found himself through on goal with an opportunity to snatch all three points. However, Super Stars goalkeeper Mendy stood tall, producing a superb one-on-one save to preserve the draw and become the Skyrockers’ hero.

The result means El-Merriekh SC Bentiu remain unbeaten after two matches, having drawn both of their opening fixtures. They sit fifth in the temporary league standings with two points, while Super Stars FC Bor remain 11th with one point.

El-Merriekh began their campaign with a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Munuki SC Juba before being held again by Super Stars.

The defending champions will now shift their attention to continental football. El-Merriekh SC Bentiu are scheduled to face Somali side Heegan FC in the first-round preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League on 5 September 2026 at Juba National Stadium.

Super Stars FC Bor will return to South Sudan Premier League action on 8 September, when they face Al-Salam FC Aweil.

With both sides still searching for their first league victory of the season, the Skyrockers and Mars will look to turn their promising starts into maximum points in their next outings.
