KIGALI, Rwanda – Somali club Mogadishu City FC have arrived in Kigali ahead of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, with the ambition of making history by winning the prestigious regional championship for the first time.
The club, travelling from Mogadishu in the Horn of Africa to Rwanda’s capital, enters the tournament carrying the hopes of Somali football as it seeks to compete among East and Central Africa’s top clubs.
Mogadishu City have been drawn in Group B, where they will face a demanding challenge against South Sudan’s Jamus SC, six-time champions Simba SC of Tanzania, and defending champions Singida Black Stars.
The return of Simba SC adds further excitement to the group, with the Tanzanian giants making their first appearance in the competition since 2018. Meanwhile, Singida Black Stars arrive as the team to beat after lifting the previous edition’s trophy.
For Mogadishu City, the tournament represents more than just a competition—it is an opportunity to write a new chapter in Somali club football. The club will be hoping to overcome the region’s established powers and challenge for the title on the biggest stage.
