Six-time champions Simba SC made their long-awaited return to the CECAFA Kagame Cup for the first time since 2018 with a goalless draw against Somalia’s Mogadishu City FC in their Group B opening match at Kigali Pele Stadium on Saturday.
The Tanzanian giants dominated much of the encounter but were unable to find the back of the net against a resilient Mogadishu City side that defended strongly throughout the match.
Mogadishu City goalkeeper Yaqub Y produced an impressive performance, making crucial saves to deny Simba SC and help his team secure a valuable point in their opening fixture.
Despite enjoying more possession and creating several opportunities, Simba SC had to settle for a draw as they began their CECAFA Kagame Cup Rwanda 2026 campaign with one point.
The result places Simba SC second in Group B, with 1 point behind leaders Jamus SC 3 points, while Mogadishu City sit third 1 point.
Hosts APR FC are bottom of the group with no points and a -2 goal difference.
Simba SC, who have won the CECAFA Kagame Cup six times, will now focus on their remaining group matches as they aim to advance to the knockout stage and challenge for a record-extending regional title.
