JUBA — Nile Eagle FC closed the opening week of the South Sudan Women’s Premier League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Kator FC at Bulluk Playground in Juba on Thursday.

Ayen Monica Deng scored the decisive goal in the 45th minute, putting Nile Eagle ahead just before half-time.

Kator came close to restoring parity in the 89th minutes when Anzoa Mary James found herself one-on-one with Nile Eagle goalkeeper Aker Deng. However, her effort went straight at the goalkeeper, who made the save to preserve her side’s advantage.

Nile Eagle remained disciplined through the closing stages to secure all three points and start their league campaign on a winning note.

The victory moves Nile Eagle FC (Bor) into sixth place in the standings with three points, while Kator FC sit eighth without a point after their opening fixture.

Nile Eagle will now look to build on the result in their next match, while Kator will be hoping to bounce back when they return to action.
