JUBA, South Sudan — Nelson Victor came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser as El Merriekh SC Bentiu secured a 2–2 draw against his former club Munuki SC in the opening match of the 2026/2027 South Sudan Premier League season at the Bulluk Playground in Juba on Saturday.
El Merriekh took an early lead when Keer Manager reacted quickest to a rebound to put the Mars ahead.
Munuki, however, responded before the break. Midfielder Stephen Abe, popularly known as Gift, levelled the score before Jose Kuch (Vardy) completed the comeback for the defending champions.
Munuki went into half-time leading 2–1.
The new comers pushed for a third goal after the restart, while the defending champions El Merriekh searched for an equaliser as the minutes continued to run down.
With the match entering the final seconds of the five minutes of added time, El Merriekh finally found their breakthrough.
Nelson Victor, introduced from the bench, produced a brilliant strike from inside the box to level the contest at 2–2. The goal was assisted by Keer Manager, who played a key role in El Merriekh's comeback.
The late equaliser ensured the two sides shared the points in their first meeting of the new Premier League campaign, while Victor marked his return against his former club with a decisive contribution.
