Hosts Morocco made a dominant start to their TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Kenya in their Group A opener on Sunday.
The Atlas Lionesses controlled the match from start to finish, securing all three points with an impressive attacking display that left the Harambee Starlets with a difficult start to the tournament.
Following the defeat, the President of the Football Kenya Federation Hussein Mohammed remained optimistic, encouraging the team and supporters to stay focused on the matches ahead.
"A difficult start to our opening fixture against Morocco. While the result is disappointing, it does not define our campaign. We remain focused, united, and determined to respond positively in our next match," the president said in a statement.
The result leaves Morocco level on three points with Algeria, who earlier defeated Senegal 2-0, setting up an exciting battle at the top of Group A. Kenya, meanwhile, will look to recover quickly as they prepare for their second group match in their bid to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
