Yei Joint Stars FC’s remarkable run in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers came to an end on Saturday as Kenya Police Bullets FC produced a dominant performance to defeat the South Sudanese champions 5-0.
The Super Queens started brightly, but Police Bullets quickly took control and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute. Tereza Engesha opened the scoring from a corner-kick set piece, putting the Kenyan side in front.
Police Bullets doubled their advantage in the 34th minute when Martha Amunyo headed home after defensive confusion left her unmarked inside the area.
Yei Joint Stars responded by enjoying more possession during the closing stages of the first half, but Coach Sony Harriet’s side struggled to create clear-cut chances and went into the interval two goals down.
Police Bullets resumed the second half with renewed intensity and extended their lead in the 55th minute.
Lorna Nyabuto produced a superb curling free-kick after Engesha was fouled just outside the penalty area, leaving goalkeeper Nawal Isaac with little chance.
Amunyo then completed her brace from the penalty spot in the 75th minute to make it 4-0 before Rebecca Okwaro completed the rout two minutes from full time, beating Isaac to seal a 5-0 victory.
The result marks Yei Joint Stars’ first defeat of the competition, bringing an end to their hopes of reaching the final.
Despite the heavy defeat, the Super Queens have made South Sudanese football history by becoming the first South Sudanese club to reach the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers.
Kenya Police Bullets will now face Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC of Uganda in the final on 31 August 2026 at Kigali Pele Stadium. Kawempe Muslim reached the final after defeating Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Ladies FC 3-0 in the other semi-final.
Yei Joint Stars will have an opportunity to finish their historic campaign with a victory when they face Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Ladies FC in the third-place playoff on 31 August at 12:00 PM at Kigali Pele Stadium.
The Super Queens will now look to bounce back and end their record-breaking campaign on a high.
