JUBA, South Sudan — Kenya international Ibrahim Elias Ahmed made his competitive debut for El Merriekh SC in the South Sudan Super Cup final on Saturday, as the Bentiu side suffered a 1–0 defeat to Al Ghazala SC at Bulluk Playground.
Ahmed joined El Merriekh on 2 July 2026, signing a two-year contract with the club ahead of the new season.
The Kenyan international midfielder was brought in to add experience, energy and quality to El Merriekh’s midfield, and the Super Cup final provided his first competitive appearance in the club’s red and yellow colours.
Despite Ahmed’s second half debut, El Merriekh were unable to claim the trophy after Kuot Chan struck the decisive goal for Al Ghazala.
The winning move came after El Merriekh were pressed in midfield and lost possession. Al Ghazala quickly played a long ball forward to Chan, who controlled the ball, drove into space and unleashed a powerful finish to put his side ahead.
The goal proved enough to settle the final and hand Al Ghazala the South Sudan Super Cup.
For Ahmed, the final marked the start of a new chapter in South Sudanese football. The Kenyan international will now turn his attention to the upcoming season, with El Merriekh expected to rely on his experience as they pursue domestic success.
Ahmed’s arrival adds international experience to an El Merriekh midfield looking to defend their domestic titles and compete at the highest level of regional football.
