JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN — South Sudan Women’s Premier League club Juba Queens have appointed Mani Isabirye Scondo as their interim head coach, with the coach taking charge of the team with immediate effect.

The Nile Queens confirmed the appointment through their official account on Friday evening, as the club prepares to continue its campaign in the inaugural South Sudan Women’s Premier League.

“Juba Queens FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mani Scondo as the club’s Interim Head Coach, effective immediately,” the club said in a statement.

The appointment comes after Juba Queens reached a mutual agreement with Rina Hope Thomas to terminate her contract, less than a month after she was appointed head coach.

Rina’ departure follows Juba Queens’ opening-day defeat in the historic competition, with the Nile Queens losing 4-1 to Yei Joint Stars in the opening match of the inaugural South Sudan Women’s Premier League.

Scondo arrived in Juba on Thursday and previously coached Moyo Star High School and Moyo FHL, both men’s football teams in Uganda.

Sports Hunter South Sudan has also reached out to Juba Queens Secretary Robert Ohiya for further information about Scondo’s coaching background and credentials. However, his contact was unavailable at the time of publication.

As a result, Sports Hunter South Sudan has not yet been able to independently verify further details of Scondo’s coaching career. The story will be updated once additional information is obtained and verified.

The interim coach now faces the task of guiding Juba Queens through the remainder of their debut Women’s Premier League campaign. The club has welcomed Scondo to his new role and wished him success as he takes charge of the Nile Queens.

Sports Hunter South Sudan will continue to follow Juba Queens and the inaugural South Sudan Women’s Premier League.
