KIGALI, Rwanda – South Sudan Premier League runners-up Jamus SC made history at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup after defeating defending champions Singida Black Stars of Tanzania 2-0 in their opening Group B match.
The victory is Jamus SC’s first-ever win in the prestigious regional tournament and places the Buffaloes temporarily at the top of Group B with three points, ahead of the evening clash between Simba SC of Tanzania and Mogadishu City FC of Somalia.
Jamus SC made a dream start in Kigali, taking the lead in the 12th minute through a moment of individual brilliance from Laurent Ramazani. The midfielder stepped up to take a free-kick and produced a stunning curling effort that flew into the top corner, leaving the Singida Black Stars goalkeeper with no chance.
The goal gave Jamus confidence as they maintained a disciplined first-half display, keeping the reigning champions under control while protecting their advantage going into the break.
Singida Black Stars, who lifted the CECAFA Kagame Cup title in the previous edition, came out strongly in the second half and increased the pressure in search of an equaliser. However, Jamus SC remained organised and resilient, frustrating the Tanzanian side with their defensive discipline.
The South Sudanese club then sealed a memorable victory deep into stoppage time when Mario Taban scored in the 90+2nd minute to secure all three points and complete a famous 2-0 win.
The result also marked a perfect start for newly appointed Tunisian head coach Saber Ben-Jabria, who claimed his first victory in charge of Jamus SC.
The historic result represents another important milestone for South Sudanese football, as Jamus SC announce their arrival on the regional stage with a statement victory over the defending champions.
