Kigali, Rwanda – Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC delivered a commanding performance to thrash hosts APR FC 5-0 in their opening Group A match of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup at Amahoro Stadium on Friday.
K’Ogalo took control of the contest in the first half, with Mike Kibwage breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute before Ekandjoum doubled the lead with a superb strike just two minutes later.
The opening 45 minutes were highly entertaining, with Gor Mahia dominating possession and creating the better chances to head into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
The Kenyan giants continued their dominance after the restart and extended their lead in the 73rd minute through P. Odhiambo, who finished confidently to make it 3-0. Just six minutes later, Paul Okoth Odhiambo added a fourth goal with an icy finish in the 79th minute, leaving APR with no route back into the contest. Substitute Assifuah completed the rout in the 85th minute, putting the icing on the cake as Gor Mahia sealed an emphatic 5-0 victory.
The result sends Gor Mahia to the top of Group A with three points, ahead of Ugandan champions Vipers SC on goal difference after the Venoms defeated Djibouti's Garde Républicaine 3-0 earlier in the day.
Hosts APR FC begin their campaign at the bottom of the standings without a point and will be looking to bounce back in their next group fixture as the race for the semi-finals continues.
