JUBA - South Sudanese defender Robert Wani has expressed his delight after extending his stay with Juba Football Association First Division League side Al-Hurriya FC, saying he feels at home at the club.
The versatile defender signed a new two-year contract extension with the Flames after an impressive debut season following his arrival from Saint Peter.
Wani played a key role in Al-Hurriya’s first season in the Juba FA First Division League, helping the club finish fifth in the standings. His outstanding contribution was recognised in May when he was named Al-Hurriya FC Player of the Season.
The defender recorded an impressive campaign, scoring two goals and providing nine assists, while delivering consistent performances that made him one of the team’s standout players.
Speaking exclusively to Sports Hunter South Sudan, Wani revealed his happiness at continuing his journey with the Flames and explained why he decided to remain with the club.
On extending his contract with Al-Hurriya FC
“I feel very excited and happy to extend my contract with Al-Hurriya FC because I learned a lot from the team, and the club taught me many things during the one season I spent here.
“That experience made me feel at home and very welcomed by everyone within the club. I believe that with our effort and hard work together as the Al-Hurriya family, we can play good football and take the team to another level, Inshallah.
“That is why it gives me no option other than to renew my contract. I feel at home now.”
On being named Al-Hurriya Player of the Season
The defender said the individual recognition has motivated him to continue working hard and improving.
“It means a lot to me because it shows that my hard work and commitment were recognised. I appreciate my teammates, coaches, the administration, and the fans because football is a team effort.
“This award motivates me to work even harder and give more for the club in the coming season.”
Why he chose to stay with the Flames
Despite possible interest from other clubs, Wani said the environment at Al-Hurriya played a major role in his decision.
“I would say the club and the administration, my coaches, teammates, our fans, and the good football we are playing at the club are the things that motivated me so much.”
His targets for the new season
With expectations higher after his successful first campaign, Wani prefers to let his performances speak for him.
“I think I have a few targets, but I will let them answer themselves on the pitch when the league starts soon.”
Message to Al-Hurriya supporters
The Flames defender praised the supporters and urged them to continue backing the team.
“I will say let them keep supporting us and let them not give up, because with their support I think we can do better than last season, Inshallah.”
What fans should expect from Robert Wani
After an outstanding debut season, Wani has promised supporters more from him in the upcoming campaign.
“I think the fans will expect more than what I played last season.”
With Wani staying at the club, Al-Hurriya FC will hope their Player of the Season continues his influence as the Flames aim to build on their strong debut season and compete for greater success.
