Kampala - South Sudan Premier League and South Sudan Cup champions El Merriekh SC Bentiu have confirmed that goalkeeper Reach Magot will undergo surgery after suffering a shoulder injury during training.
In a statement, the club revealed that Magot sustained an acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation and will travel to Egypt in the coming days for AC joint reconstruction surgery.
"El Merriekh SC Bentiu can confirm that our goalkeeper Reach Magot sustained an acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation during recent training. He is scheduled to undergo AC joint reconstruction surgery," the club said.
The Bentiu-based side added that the goalkeeper will begin his rehabilitation immediately after the operation under the supervision of a specialist medical team.
"Reech will travel to Egypt in the coming days to undergo the surgery and begin his rehabilitation under the supervision of a specialist medical team. A full rehabilitation programme and return-to-play timeline will be announced after the surgery upon completion," the statement added.
The injury is a significant setback for El Merriekh as the reigning South Sudan champions continue preparations for the 2026/27 domestic season and their CAF Champions League preliminary round campaign.
Magot has established himself as one of South Sudan's finest goalkeepers, playing a pivotal role in El Merriekh's domestic double-winning season. His performances earned him the Best Goalkeeper award in both the 2025/26 South Sudan Premier League and the South Sudan Cup, underlining his importance to the club.
El Merriekh will now hope their first-choice goalkeeper makes a successful recovery and returns to action later in the season after completing his rehabilitation.
