KIGALI, Rwanda – Defending CECAFA Kagame Cup champions Singida Black Stars bounced back from their opening defeat to South Sudan's Jamus SC with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Mogadishu City Club in Group B on Tuesday.
The Tanzanian side made the worst possible start after Naby Bangoura fired Mogadishu City Club into the lead in the 10th minute.
Singida responded almost immediately, with Henry David levelling the scores three minutes later before Mathew Tegisi completed the turnaround in the 16th minute to hand the defending champions a 2-1 advantage.
Henry David struck again just before half-time to extend Singida's lead to 3-1, putting the holders firmly in control at the break.
Tegisi completed his brace eight minutes into the second half, scoring in the 53rd minute to seal a convincing 4-1 victory and earn Singida their first three points of the tournament.
The result lifts Singida Black Stars to second place in Group B with three points and a +1 goal difference, behind leaders Jamus SC, who also have three points but boast a superior +2 goal difference.
Simba SC sit third with one point, while Mogadishu City Club remain bottom with one point and a -3 goal difference, before the conclusion of the Group B fixture between Jamus SC and Simba SC.
Singida Black Stars will conclude their group-stage campaign against Simba SC, with a place in the knockout stage still up for grabs as the defending champions seek to keep their title defence alive.
