Juba - Former Yei Joint Stars FC forward and South Sudan international Deborah Alworonga Luka has made a surprise and low-key move to Uganda, joining Uganda Martyrs Women’s Football Club in the FUFA Women’s Super League.

The move marks a new chapter in the career of the talented forward, who has previously featured for clubs outside South Sudan, including Lithuanian side MFA Žalgiris and Albanian club FK Apolonia.

Deborah joined FK Apolonia in Albania last year but made only two appearances for the club during the season. Her time with the Albanian side was subsequently brought to an end through a mutual termination, following a difficult spell that was affected by injuries and a loss of form.

The South Sudan international last represented the South Sudan Senior Women’s National Team during the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where South Sudan was eliminated by Madagascar.

Following her national-team assignment, Deborah did not return to Albania. Instead, she travelled to Uganda, where she has now begun a new chapter with Uganda Martyrs WFC.

The forward made her debut for Uganda Martyrs in their opening Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women’s Super League fixture against Lady Doves FC, a match Uganda Martyrs won 1–0.

Her move to Uganda comes as a surprise, particularly given that she has opted to continue her career outside the South Sudan Women’s Premier League.

For Deborah Alworonga Luka, the move represents another opportunity to regain consistency, overcome the setbacks of her previous season and continue developing her career in women’s football.

Her arrival at Uganda Martyrs WFC will also be closely followed by South Sudanese football fans, as the forward looks to make her mark in the Ugandan top flight and potentially return to the international spotlight.

A new country. A new club. A new chapter for Deborah Alworonga Luka.
