South Sudan’s U-15 boys’ national team has arrived safely in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, ahead of the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival.
Azerbaijan is located in the South Caucasus region, at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.
It lies along the western shore of the Caspian Sea, east of the South Caucasus mountains. Its geographical position makes it a meeting point between Europe and Asia.
South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) Vice President Deng Abdel Rahman confirmed the delegation’s safe arrival, saying all members were in good health following their journey.
“The delegation has arrived safely and everyone is well,” Abdel Rahman said, adding that the players would rest before beginning preparations on Wednesday.
The Young Bright Stars have been drawn in Group D alongside Cyprus, The Gambia, Jordan, Nigeria and Pakistan, setting up an opportunity to test themselves against teams from different footballing backgrounds.
The FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival offers young players an opportunity to gain international exposure, develop their footballing skills and learn through competition and interaction with peers from other countries.
For South Sudan, the tournament represents another opportunity to expose its emerging football talent to the international stage while gaining experience that could support the players’ long-term development.
With the delegation safely in Baku, attention now turns to preparations for the competition as the Young Bright Stars look forward to representing South Sudan in Azerbaijan.
