JUBA, South Sudan - Lainya County has officially been eliminated from the ongoing Central Equatoria State Peace Tournament, concluding a brave campaign that saw them exit without losing a match against rival side Wonduruba.
Despite earning four points across two intense encounters securing a hard-fought victory and a tactical draw against Wonduruba Lainya County failed to secure enough aggregate leverage to advance to the next round of the tournament.
Lainya opened their last fixture series against Wonduruba with purpose, establishing dominance in their first matchup with a decisive victory. Their second leg brought high tactical drama, ending in a stalemate as both sides traded blows in a tightly contested draw.
While unbeaten on paper against Wonduruba, the tournament's group standings and goal-differential criteria ultimately shifted the momentum elsewhere, leaving Lainya County short of a qualifying spot.
Speaking after the final match, Joseph Malon the Coach praised the squad’s effort, discipline, and unity throughout the tournament.
"The boys gave everything on the pitch," noted the coaching staff. "We played with heart and remained unbeaten against a tough opponent. While we are disappointed not to go further, this tournament was about bringing our communities together through sport, and we leave with our heads held high."
The Central Equatoria State Peace Tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for fostering unity, reconciliation, and youth development across the state’s counties. While Lainya County's journey comes to an end, their spirited performances added immense color and competitive energy to this year's edition.
