CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has praised the performances of African national teams at the FIFA World Cup 2026, describing their achievements as a significant milestone in the growth of African football.
Africa was represented by 10 nations at the tournament: Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia.
According to CAF, nine of the 10 African teams (90%) qualified from the group stage to the Round of 32, the highest percentage recorded by African teams in FIFA World Cup history.
Morocco and Egypt progressed to the Round of 16, while Morocco continued its remarkable World Cup journey by reaching the quarter-finals for the second consecutive tournament.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said he was proud of the progress made by African teams but acknowledged that there are still areas requiring improvement.
“Significant progress and successes were achieved by the African National Teams at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and I am very proud of their performances,” Motsepe said.
CAF will organise a conference involving national team coaches, technical teams, former players, and football experts to evaluate the performances and develop recommendations ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2030.
