The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Samson Adamu as its new General Secretary following approval by the organisation’s Executive Committee (EXCO) this week.
Adamu, who has held the position in an acting capacity since March 2026, was confirmed following a comprehensive recruitment process that involved widely advertising the position and interviewing several candidates.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said the appointment followed a thorough selection exercise.
“ The appointment followed a comprehensive recruitment process, during which the position was widely advertised and several candidates were interviewed,” Motsepe said.
Adamu joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions before subsequently serving as Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a leading role in delivering major continental competitions, including the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
A graduate of the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, Adamu brings years of experience and institutional knowledge to the position.
As General Secretary, he will oversee CAF’s day-to-day administration and support the implementation of the organisation’s strategic priorities.
His confirmation marks a new chapter in CAF’s administration as he transitions from acting leadership to the substantive General Secretary position.
