Kigali - APR FC boosted their chances of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup after securing a crucial 3-1 victory over Garde Républicaine FC at the Kigali Pele Stadium.
The Rwandan champions bounced back from their disappointing 5-0 opening defeat to Gor Mahia with a dominant display led by captain Cheick Djibril Ouattara, who scored twice, while Mamadou Traoré added another goal to complete a strong response.
Following the result, the Group A standings remain tightly contested.
Vipers SC sit at the top of the group with six points and a +4 goal difference after winning their opening two matches.
Gor Mahia are second with three points and a +4 goal difference, while APR FC occupy third place with three points but a -3 goal difference.
Garde Républicaine FC are bottom of the group with zero points and a -7 goal difference.
Under the tournament format, the three group winners automatically qualify for the semi-finals, while the best-performing second-placed team across the three groups will join them in the last four.
With qualification still open, the final group matches will determine which teams progress to the knockout stage of the regional competition.
