Juba, South Sudan - Al Hilal SC Wau’s bright start to the 2026/27 South Sudan Premier League has quickly turned into a difficult spell, with the Wau-based side suffering consecutive defeats.
Coach Baping Aliab’s team opened their campaign in emphatic fashion, beating Koryom FC 7-2 on August 26. But that result has been followed by back-to-back setbacks against Wajuma FC and Malakia SC.
Al Hilal fell 3-1 to Wajuma on September 1 before suffering an even heavier 5-1 defeat to Malakia on September 7.
The results leave Al Hilal with three points from three matches, having scored nine goals and conceded 10. They have also yet to keep a clean sheet.
The numbers underline the contrast in Al Hilal’s opening three games: their attack has found the net regularly, but defensive frailties have proved costly.
Now, attention turns to Week 4, when Al Hilal will face debutants Munuki SC.
Aliab’s side will be looking to stop the slide and rediscover the attacking spark that produced seven goals on the opening day.
For Al Hilal, the equation is becoming clear: the goals are coming, but the defence needs to find answers.
