Juba - South Sudan U-23 national team defender Malual Leay Ngiey has undergone successful surgery at Juba Medical Complex (JMC) after suffering a ruptured ankle tendon shortly before the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier against Djibouti.
The South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) confirmed that Ngiey is recovering well following the operation, which was performed in Juba after he was taken to the hospital following the injury.
In a statement, the federation assured the defender, his family and football supporters of its commitment to his recovery.
“The SSFF assures the public, fans and the wider football community that Ngiey will receive full medical care and rehabilitation support throughout his surgery and recovery, until he safely returns to the pitch,” the federation said.
Following his discharge from hospital, an SSFF delegation visited Ngiey at Sun Rise Hotel on Saturday evening to express its support.
The delegation was led by First Vice President Makur Majok and included National Teams Committee Chairperson Sebit Dok, Investment and Marketing Committee Chairperson Mujahid Ali, and Deputy Secretary General Alsheikh Chol.
During the visit, Majok reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to players who sustain injuries while representing the country, saying SSFF would stand by them throughout treatment and recovery.
“We wish Malual a swift and full recovery,” Dok said, adding that the National Teams Committee would follow up on the defender’s progress and ensure he receives the necessary support.
Ngiey expressed appreciation for the delegation’s visit as he begins his recovery following the successful operation.
The defender will now focus on rehabilitation, with the federation pledging continued support until he is ready to return to the pitch.
