Juba, South Sudan - Singida Black Stars produced a dominant display to humiliate South Sudan’s Al Ghazala SC 7-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round at Juba National Stadium on Sunday evening.
Mathew Tegisi was the star of the show, scoring a first-half hat-trick as Singida Black Stars took control of the tie before the break.
Tegisi opened the scoring in the 19th minute before doubling the visitors’ advantage three minutes later. He completed his hat-trick in the 31st minute to put Singida Black Stars 3-0 ahead.
Sheikhan added the fourth in the 40th minute as the Tanzanian side went into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Johnathan continued the scoring after the restart, making it 5-0 in the 62nd minute.
Al Ghazala pulled one goal back through Mohammed in the 69th minute, giving the South Sudanese side a brief moment of hope.
However, Singida Black Stars quickly restored their four-goal advantage when Henry scored in the 86th minute.
Johnathan then completed the rout in the 90th minute, scoring his second of the match to seal a resounding 7-1 victory.
The heavy defeat leaves Al Ghazala with a huge challenge ahead of the second leg, as Singida Black Stars take a commanding six-goal advantage into the return fixture.
