JUBA, South Sudan – Olic Mario produced a match-winning performance with a first-half brace as Greater Oronyo defeated Ifwotu 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the 10th Edition of the Monyie - miji Tournament at Buluk Playground in Juba on Wednesday.
The Viva Stars winger opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a powerful left-footed finish from close range to give Greater Oronyo an early advantage.
Just minutes later, Mario struck again, rising highest to head home a pinpoint cross from the right flank and complete his brace, sealing the victory before half-time.
Greater Oronyo controlled the remainder of the match to secure their place in the semi-finals, where they will face tournament surprise package Angario for a place in the final.
The Monyie - miji Tournament is an annual community football competition aimed at promoting peace, unity, and social cohesion among communities from Eastern Equatoria State residing in Juba.
Beyond the football action, the tournament serves as a platform to strengthen relationships, encourage peaceful coexistence, and foster solidarity among the state's diverse communities.
Greater Oronyo will now look to carry their momentum into the semi-finals as they continue their quest for the 10th Edition title.
