Viva Star 2–0 Gurei United | JFA South Sudan Cup – Quarter-finals
Viva Star booked their place in the semi-finals of the Juba Football Association (JFA) South Sudan Cup after a 2-0 victory over Gurei United, inspired by a brace from Khalifa Jackson.
Jackson opened the scoring with an excellent individual finish, controlling a long ball behind the Gurei United defence before firing a left-footed strike from inside the penalty area.
The first half was briefly interrupted by protests from Viva Star players following a controversial five-second countdown by the centre referee.
The incident occurred after the ball went out of play and Viva Star's goalkeeper went to retrieve it. With no ball boys available at Simba Playground, the players questioned the decision to begin the countdown before the ball had been returned to the pitch.
Despite the interruption, the Fighters maintained their advantage to head into the half-time break leading 1-0.
Jackson struck again after the restart to complete his brace and seal the victory for Coach Nasir Yusif's side.
Nile FC await in the semi-finals
Viva Star will now face 2nd Division side Nile FC in the semi-finals, with a place in the JFA South Sudan Cup final at stake.
The Fighters will be looking to carry their quarter-final momentum into the last-four encounter as their pursuit of cup glory continues.
