Former South Sudan U20 national team captain Joseph Loro made his official debut for Abbassieh FC in their 2–1 defeat to Safa FC in Week 1 of the Lebanon Premier League at Fouad Chehab Stadium on Thursday.

Head coach Hassen Swaidan deployed the South Sudanese midfielder in a defensive midfield role, marking Loro’s first official appearance for the Lebanese club following his move from El Merriekh SC Bentiu.

Despite the defeat, the debut represents another step in Loro’s career abroad.

The Future Stars Football Academy graduate previously won the South Sudan Cup, Premier League and Super Cup with El Merriekh, while also helping Munuki SC claim the Juba Football Association First Division League title in the 2021–2022 season, ending a 34-year wait.

Loro has also had brief spells in Benin and Nigeria, gaining experience outside South Sudan before his latest move to Lebanon.

Abbassieh will look to recover from their opening-day setback when they face Jwaya FC on October 18 in Week 2, with Loro and his teammates targeting their first points of the campaign.
