JUBA, South Sudan | September 3, 2026 — Goalkeeper Godwil Yugusuk Simon has been left out of South Sudan head coach Christian N’Sengi-Biembe’s 48-man provisional squad for the Bright Stars’ upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifying fixtures against Malawi and Egypt.
Yugusuk’s omission is likely to attract attention given his standout campaign in the 2024/25 South Sudan Premier League, where he was recognised as the league’s best goalkeeper.
The shot-stopper conceded 18 goals and kept 10 clean sheets in 22 league appearances for Kator SC, helping the club finish as runners-up.
However, Yugusuk has not featured competitively since completing a move to Jamus SC, popularly known as the Buffaloes, on July 22, 2026.
He joined Jamus from Kator SC on a three-year contract, but has yet to make an appearance for the Juba-based side.
His lack of competitive playing time appears to have coincided with his absence from N’Sengi-Biembe’s first provisional squad since taking charge of the Bright Stars.
South Sudan are preparing to open their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign away to Malawi, before hosting Egypt in their next assignment.
The start date for the Bright Stars’ training camp has not yet been disclosed.
