JUBA, South Sudan — Munuki SC forward Emmanuel Makeny has confirmed that he did not travel with the South Sudan senior national team to Malawi due to a delay in the processing of his passport.

Makeny said the passport process took longer than expected and that the document was only released by the Directorate of Nationality, Passport and Immigration after the national team delegation had already departed.

As a result, the forward was unable to join the squad for the team’s trip to Malawi.

The development comes as the Bright Stars prepare for their upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying fixtures.

Makeny’s absence is therefore understood to be related to the timing of his passport issuance, rather than a technical decision to leave him out of the travelling squad.

Sports Hunter South Sudan understands that the forward remains in South Sudan after the passport delay prevented him from travelling with the delegation.

Further details on Makeny’s availability for the national team’s upcoming fixtures are expected from the relevant authorities and technical team.
