LUSAKA, Zambia — The Copper Queens have departed for Algiers, Algeria, as they enter the final phase of preparations ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled for Morocco.
The Zambian delegation left Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka at 21:25, after being seen off by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Charles Chakatazya.
The team is expected to arrive in Algiers at 13:00, where they will conduct a week-long training camp aimed at sharpening their tactical approach and building match fitness ahead of the continental tournament.
The delegation is led by FAZ National Women’s Representative Col. Priscilla Katoba and includes players who have been part of the local training camp. They will be joined by foreign-based players and head coach Nora Häuptle.
During the Algeria camp, the Copper Queens are scheduled to play two international friendly matches against the Desert Foxes’ women’s team, providing a key test before the WAFCON finals.
After the camp in Algeria, Zambia will travel to Morocco to begin their WAFCON campaign, with the Copper Queens targeting a strong performance as they aim to compete for continental honours and secure qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
